Rising Waters

Created by Central Michigan University Press

A tabletop board game based on the 1927 Mississippi Flood from Central Michigan University Press. We can now accept preorders from international backers. EU and UK backers, please note: we have EU and UK friendly shipping rates, but instead of rolling VAT into the shipping cost, we have set it up to show the VAT calculation as a separate line item.

Hydrologic Cycle -- Now on Kickstarter!
28 days ago – Fri, Mar 29, 2024 at 08:53:04 AM

Hi all,

As backers of our previous campaign for Rising Waters, we just wanted to jump in here to let you all know we are crowdfunding a new game on Kickstarter right now: Hydrologic Cycle

Hydrologic Cycle, designed by Wendy Robertson with art by Lamaro Smith (of Rising Waters fame),is a fast-paced, 1v1 or 2v2 player, area-control card game where players fight for control of the global water cycle. To win, players must use their knowledge and memorization skills to connect water cycle reservoirs and transport processes and end the game with more of their cards covering the game board.

We had a good launch earlier this week, and now stand at around 70% of our funding goal. Help us add to the momentum by checking the game out and backing or sending the game on to your favorite science educator or gaming enthusiast. One of the reward tiers in the campaign even includes a bundle where a backer can get a copy of Rising Waters with Hydrologic Cycle -- perfect for anyone you know who wasn't able to get in the Rising Waters campaign when it was crowdfunding.

Here's the campaign link again. Thanks everyone!

Update on International Shipping
4 months ago – Thu, Jan 04, 2024 at 01:22:24 PM

Hi all,

This is a quick update for our international backers. Over the holiday break, our UK fulfillment partner processed our pallet of games and prepared our remaining international orders. As of today, many orders are out the door and in transit (you have probably had emails from GamesQuest about this that started arriving after Christmas).

Please reach out to GamesQuest (through links they provided in their fulfillment confirmation emails to you) or us directly ([email protected]) if you have any issues with your packages as they arrive.

Fulfillment on Rising Waters is now complete (except for a few stragglers who haven't answered surveys yet). Thank you for your interest in the game. We hope you have enjoyed it. We'll be in touch soon regarding our next game coming to crowdfunding (in March most likely...stay tuned!) if you wish to continue to support CMich Press in its mission to create engaging, peer-reviewed, pedagogical games.

Also, our pre-order store for Five Hundred Year Old Vampire is still open on Backerkit, so if you have been waiting to check out that game, now is the time: https://five-hundred-year-old-vampire.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders.

Stay safe, everyone!

European Backers and Curriculum Guide
6 months ago – Fri, Nov 03, 2023 at 01:07:34 PM

Dear Backers,

We have two brief, but important updates for you all.

For our European backers Rising Waters is finally on its way to our fulfillment partner in Europe. We will send another update as soon as we know that the games have started shipping from our partner to you. Deepest apologies for the length of time it has taken to get Rising Waters to you.

For those of you eagerly awaiting the curriculum guide we also have good news. First, most of the delay is on the size of this guide. Most of the guides we create are about the size of a journal article. This one is the size of a small book. Scout created a lot of great material and getting that material into the format required for the guide took extra time. At the beginning of this week the game went to our copyeditor. The estimated completion on the guide is the end of November. If you need the guide sooner than that please reach out and we can share a draft with you.

Happy gaming everyone!

Shipping!
7 months ago – Fri, Sep 22, 2023 at 08:53:36 AM

Greetings all! This is a very short but happy update. For U.S. backers and everyone not in Europe, we have just heard from our warehouse that they are ready to go and the games will start shipping out on Monday. For our European Backers. Because we are within a university the process of signing contracts takes longer. The paperwork for the agreement with our potential European fulfillment partner is in process. Once that is signed off on we will get underway as quickly as we can. Deepest apologies for the delay. We will continue to keep you updated as it progresses.

Additional Information:

The digital rulebook is now ready to go. A big shout out of thanks to Liz Davidson for her work on it. You will be able to scan the QR code in the rulebook to get to it. But, if you would like to see it now you can simply click on this link… https://cmichpress.com/rising-waters-resource-page/

Once all of the games ship we will still have one final piece to get to you all, the Curriculum Guide. It is well underway and should be out to everyone by mid- to late-October.

That is all for this week!
